Try it for just one day
Another year in my life begins today and it forces me to reflect on who I am and where I have been. We are living in a world of change and I myself, much like many other people have seen the world turn upside down before my eyes. Good men at good jobs have lost their livelihood for no other reason than greed by the big multinationals. People are being forced to move away and families are being torn apart. Yet, I come from a part of the planet where it is not acceptable to sit around and moan while I cry and feel sorry for myself. People would not blame me if I did, because we have all been affected. The way I was taught came from the rock of my family and she told me many times, as I turned her hair gray, that her remedy for the blues was a scrubbing bucket and Lestoil. I had the opportunity to spend the last 4 days with a maverick named Tony Robbins and he has issued a challenge to me. As he sees it, it is not good enough anymore to be just good in what we do, we need to be outstanding. Whether it is as an employee, employer, student, parent, spouse, leader or coach, good does not cut it anymore. The rest of the world has caught us but we know what to do when tough times hit. Hell, we have been in a recession in the Maritimes for 100 years. We cannot wait for the lone ranger because he is not coming. We have to rise up and lead the way and show the rest of the world what we are made of. Make it our motto and hold each other to the standard. What is the worst thing that can happen? It cannot get worst, right. But maybe, just maybe, we can be the change that others need to make. Try it for just one day. Maybe something will begin to happen?
