Me and the boys
I went to listen to one of my favorite musicians the other night and although it was from another time and place, the feelings, of listening to him live and up close, were priceless. As those who may follow my posts on Facebook or Twitter, it was indeed the great Matt Minglewood. Much like other Maritimers who have achieved success in their given field, this man has never forgotten where he came from.
His opening song brought me back to a place in time where life had left me bewildered and sad. It was not so much a matter of circumstances that had me stuck, rather it was my decision to plow the dusty trail without the help of anyone. It is only through the window of reflection that I realize how many guided hands kept me walking on the journey of life. I am sure the patience of many, especially those closet to me, was tested to the limit.
Life is a great teacher and much like most libraries, it is always open to those who may seek knowledge. It is getting it through our thick skulls, without having to bash our foreheads. It is remembering who we really are and where we came from. Most times this will help us to determine where it is that we really need to be headed.
The opening song, “Me and the boys”, is exactly what each of us enjoyed about our childhoods. Friendship is priceless and true friends are more valuable than any earthly treasures. The memories of good times and all the laughs that went with it, carry us through circumstances and stuff if we just allow ourselves to lean. Worst that you can do is fall down but somebody will always be there, to help you get going again.
