SITTING IN A HOTEL ROOM
After a long day and close to1000 km’s, It is nice to finish the day with good conversation and a nice glass of wine. Unfortunately, some days finish on the road and when you are by yourself, it is hard to be motivated to do anything other than mulling your recent travels. Today I visited the beautiful island of Cape Breton and the similarities to home are not limited to the great demeanor of the inhabitants, but also on their plight in this crazy place we call the world.
Much like home, these people have watched their jobs, children, and the backbone of their economy move west in search of prosperity. Yet, with a twinkle in their eye, much like the one you see in children at Christmas time, they do not forget where they have come from and how important home really is. They talk of the good days and better days to come. Sometimes, that is all we have is hope.
Life is a mystery and our journey never presents two identical days. Each is unique just like the people we meet. The challenge is to find the gift in each and everything we encounter. That is the seed of all hope. Just like sitting in a hotel room. If I think long enough, maybe something will help me to gain insight, into what tomorrow will bring. I know. The greatest gift of all. I get to go home to my family. Isn’t that what life is all about.
