We All Come From Away
The dust is beginning to settle but there are no words to describe how the good folks on the Miramichi, put all their energy together and united in a common goal. Of course, I am talking about the little community of Renous being chosen as the recipient of Kraft’s Hockeyville. It is an example of selfless efforts that can give hope to those of us that are disillusioned by all the self-seeking bullshit that we witness in the mainstream media each day. There is a good old fashioned lesson for all of us.
I could rant forever on this topic but I choose to illustrate the greatest that we all have inside of us. We are all born heroes waiting for our opportunities to jump into action. It is what we do as humans. That was how this country was built with a hand up not equaling a handout. We all want to do our part but some of us have been paralyzed by intolerance, ignorance, resentment, and anger. Nothing great is grown from seeds of rot. Warmth, nourishment, energy, and effort can change the impossible into the possible.
I recently went to see the musical “Come from Away” which echoes Renous. The story is of Gander Newfoundland and is about the reaction of ordinary people coming together to change the experience of hundreds of stranded travelers on September 11th. The story has every imaginable emotion attached and you witness the perspective of many different views. It hit home for me. We welcomed a family of seven during the same period and I felt the emotions of the actors. What I did that day was what my parents, my neighbors and my community taught me when tragedy hit our home. It is what we are meant to do for we all come from somewhere. Once again, the Renous message makes me proud to call the river my home even though I now live away.
