A Lesson From the Three Little Pigs
You know the one about the pigs that went to market. This about the other ones that decided to become homeowners. Each had the desire to have their own place and were weighing out their options relative to what was happening in their lives. Some were not ready for disruption while a lone soul was willing to pay the price for long term stability.
I am left to assume that the selection of building materials was to be correlated to the price and complexity of the construction. The first two oinkers chose straw and wood while Mr. Visionary chose to use brick. I will assume that each and every one of us know the next part when the big bad wolf blows the houses of straw and wood down and the two victims beat ‘er for the brick place. Eventually, the wolf succumbs after efforts to displace the two boarders and the gracious host from the fortress that he ultimately could not penetrate.
So what does this have to do with anything relative today you may ask. Is it about construction, home ownership or simply too much ham for last night’s meal?? If we dive in deeper, it is about where we are going as a country and as a society. Too few are looking long term which creates an imbalance that may ultimately succumb to the wolf of tomorrow know as insolvency. There are too many at the trough. Somewhere, someone has to make the needed sacrifices to ensure long term preservation. That is what our parents and their parents did.
I watched a program last night about the trenches in World War One. I had visited this same area last year and this only deepened the remorse that I felt for those who gave so we could be free. The freedoms we enjoy were not and are not free!! There is a price to pay. The hard part to understand is that the equation of today equals the result for the future. We owe a debt to yesterday which we should not pay with tomorrow’s fruit. If we do, we will join the two little pigs. Under the roof of someone else who is calling the shots and dictating terms. Hopefully, there is no wolf in the form of a BBQ.
